| NEWSFLASH: FIFA ANNOUNCES PROTECTIVE HEADGEAR COMPULSORY FROM NEXT YEAR | ||
| Following on from this years World Cup final, at the special request of the French captain Zinedine Zidane, the wearing of protective headgear will be required for all players from next year.
The big question is...are they really necessary? Those who advocate them like the additional protection a helmet affords in the event of a collision, or an errantly swung arm... or a rush of blood that sends the wearer head first towards an opposing player's chest. Other benefits... A well fit helmet represents one of the best ways to retain body heat. Long known to winter sports enthusiasts, a significant amount of body heat can escape from an uncovered noggin. Especially as some players are noted hotheads. Dissenting opinion to this new rule argues that the wearing of headgear is a knee-jerk reaction by FIFA and is entirely un-nescessary as Zidanes brain injury obviously occurred BEFORE the actual impact. |
